This comment is primarily for an American audience, but I think it may apply to people world wide. No matter where you live there is always the constant struggle to survive for the vast majority of you and me, however I have been blessed with my whiteness, quasi-attractiveness, parents, family strength, health, and education. In my advanced age I realize how many in my country and the world do not have the blessings of my life; they live day to day; they have afflictions; they have little hope of improvement, and they are constantly bullied by life itself. It, then, is easy for me to be conservative on my political and most of my social opinions, but I readily admit that I have had all the breaks and have for the most part, taken advantage of them. However, a great majority of Americans and the world do not have what I have been given by my parents and by that Universal Power that energizes our Universe. So , these people must have assistance from those that have and by their respecitive governments. However and it’s a big however, people must attempt to provide the best they can with what they do have. People without, must try and when the basics of living are not possible, then they must be supported. America is broke and is becoming a country where half the populace expects the government to provide for them without themselves paying taxes. I think all citizens who are protected and provided for by government should be required to support the Federal Government, even if in a small way. I call it Contributary Citizenship because America and the world is becoming fiscally bankrupt. All they do, these governments, is generate money without any backing whatsoever. If citizens do not particpate and are provided for, they lose all incentives to improve their and their family’s lot in life. They lose their self reliance; their individuality, their humaness to strive to live without dependence. The argument in America is becoming, well just tax the rich more to pay for all these basic needs. No question the rich, well-off, and middle income workers provide almost 75% of the revenues this country’s receives in tax revenues. Half of our wage earners pay no Federal Income Taxes, so that half of our citizinery receives a high percentage of the benefits while not paying a dime into the system. Our American tax system is broke as is our overall system. We are becoming a country of Dependency; July 4th, 2012 or sometime soon after, will need be renamed to Dependence Day; that day when the U.S.A. becomes a member of the European Union and announces that is finally and honestly a Socialist country. That would be at least honest and maybe it would work in this day and age.
But until that time, I propse a solution, so that America can stay solvent and independent. Solution: Everyone pay something., say say a minimum 3 %. Increase the age of Social Security because it was designed in 1935 when people died in their sixties on average; it should gradually be raised to 70 by 2020. As a Republic as spelled out in our Constitution, let the States handle Medicaid, but have mandatory minium Federal requirements so that those in need will get same, but have the Federal funds given in annual block grants based on the States population. Also, each annual budget must be balanced. Presidential Elections should not be allowed to be financed or begun until six months before the Election. The United States should pull out all of its military from Europe and the Far East because all we do is fund countries who first, don’t appreciate it, and secondly, don’t need it. They should pull out of Iraq and Afghanastan within 2 years, but our military must be maintained, but at least a 10% lower funding level by concentration on cyber warfare, cyber monitoring of hot spots and the use of Special Forces when needed and robotic technology. Lastly, we should reduce our committment to funding the UN; the World Bank; and the IMF. Those organizations dispise the U.S., yet gladly accept our majority funding each and every year.
In the year 2016, America could re-celebrate Independence Day by not being broke; they would not be on foreign shores, except for diplomatic forces, and the citizens would all be required to pay something into the system, no matter how small. Then we could concentrate on developing energy sources for the world like we created Man is space 50 years ago, but we will become just another Euro Country
As I wrote earlier, if the above, in some fashion is not addressed, the United States may become part of Europe and lose its vibrant, independence which has made it the beacon of freedom and free will since its beginning. Which way will it go?
